This section is somewhat tentatively called public buildings, because here we have included production and storage buildings as well.
From 1993 to 2015 we have designed projects for 42 residential buildings with a total gross floor area of approximately 270,000 m2. Including the preliminary and competitive projects which have not been realized.
About 25 buildings on an area of 73,000 m2 received building permission, and 22 of them with total area of 25,400 m2 were actually built.
The predominant function features of our public buildings are commercial, hotels, office buildings, exhibition centers, small and medium factories (mainly in textile and food factories) and storage buildings - trade centers, as well as some buildings with mixed function.
Aside from several large international competitions, the rest projects are mainly in the municipality of Plovdiv. The completed 22 buildings are relatively small objects (1000-2000 m2) with trade, storage and production function with their administrative buildings and a hotel. Unfortunately in Plovdiv there are no serious investments in any business area recently and this is an objective fact, not only a problem of our architectural studio or our clients. We will only note that from 2005 to 2008 we have designed projects for two luxury hotels - one in the city center (at the southern foot of the Old Town), the other in a residential area ‘Trakia’ with an area of about 30,000 m2 each and two projects for administrative-shopping centers with an area of around 10,000 m2. The hotel in the city center received building permission for the preliminary design in 2007, and the project for administrative-shopping site has a building permit since 2006.
Now that we know that Plovdiv is the European Capital of Culture 2019, we hope this will boost cultural tourism and investments in the city.
